Before you buy: what happens when your credits run out

A sandbox costs credits for as long as it exists, not only while it is running. A stopped VM still holds its disk and a reserved public IP address, and our hosting provider bills those hourly — which is why stopped machines carry a reduced but non-zero rate.

We email you warnings as your balance runs low, and when about €1 is left we stop your running VMs automatically so the remainder drains more slowly and your data stays intact. If you still do not top up and the balance reaches zero, every VM on your account is deleted — running and stopped alike — together with the disk and everything stored on it. That deletion is permanent, we keep no backup, and buying more credits afterwards does not bring a deleted VM back.

Credits also expire 12 months after purchase, and expiry counts the same way: if it leaves your balance at zero, your VMs go with it.

So act on those warning emails, copy your results off the machine as you go, delete sandboxes you have finished with, and top up before the runway estimate on your dashboard approaches zero. Full details are in section 9.5 of the Terms of Service.
